Rubin is a goofy boy, with a sweet and sensitive nature. He is always up for a good time, and has a great personality. He loves to show off, is a CKC champion, and has 3 majors and 11 points towards his asca championship. He is a thoughtful worker when herding stock with a natural sense of rate. He is a confident cow dog, and will grip heads and heels, and has a lot of presence on cattle. He has worked Heifers and bulls in fenced and unfenced areas. In his first trial he picked up all his Started stock titles and a Most Promising Started buckle. At his second trial he earned all his open titles, but was beat by his sister for the HC Open award. We are working on some agility basics at the moment and I hope he can compete in Started next year. He works well for food, toys and praise.
Originally he wasn’t supposed to stay with us. As a puppy he was named Cinder, and was pick boy in the litter. His home fell through and since I was keeping Cerise, and a puppy going to Europe had to stay until 15 weeks, I sent him off to live with Trainer and friend Amanda Labadie of Many Muddy Paws. He was renamed “Singe” during that time. When we sent his brother Rusty to Germany we picked up Rubin from Amanda (he failed to sway her heart into keeping him, though she was tempted). He was still the handsomest and sweetest puppy ever, and so he stayed.
I didn’t think Singe suited him very well and had a heck of a time finding a name I liked. Someone suggested Rubin which I liked the sound of, and after some internet digging I realized that The Grateful Dead had a song titled “Rubin & Cerise”, so I didn’t have much choice after that! In keeping with the “red” name theme of the litter, he became Superfly’s The Grateful Red.
He is currently training in stock, obedience and agility.
